What is Cullart?

  • Cullart is a command in Sandbox that, as the name suggests, culls art. To cull means to remove good from bad, and originally refers to herds of animals, such as cattle. Cullart can be used to remove unnecessary textures and other items from a map's resource list (mapname-art.cfg).

Pre-culling

  • Before you use cullart, go to the map's resource list (mapname-art.cfg) and make a copy of it somewhere for later.

How do we use cullart?

  • To use cullart, hit ` (above TAB) and type /cullart. All textures should change to a "NO TEXTURE" texture. But don't worry! This will be fixed. Save your map as mapname-culled, and load that map. Your textures should be back in place.
    • You could just save your map by the name it had before you culled it, but I would be cautious before doing so, as it hasn't been tested yet.

Post-culling

  • If you used a teleport in your map, you may need to add in the teleport mapmodel into the list for the teleport entity to use it. The same goes for elevators/platforms and the jumppad model.
